Simon Cowell is an entire record company in one man...

A music machine manipulating light entertainment and selling pap not pop...

Pop is life changing, culture shifting, wondrous stuff.

It's the only art form that goes straight to your heart, your groin, your anger.

It will last longer than Cowell ever will!!!

I have said in a previous blog that music is incredibly important to me and my life, it wakes me up in the morning, sends me to sleep at night and keeps me going through the day.

I also accept that everyones musical tastes are different and people should respect that but one thing that is really starting to get on my nerves lately is X Factors constant influence on the charts. This week six of the the top ten records have been directly influenced by this show.

When it was first launched some however many years ago (I also include Popstars, Popstars the Rivals, Pop Idol as they are pretty much the same thing) it was revolutionary and I thank it for giving us Will Young and Girls Aloud because they are great artists in their own right but I think its gone a bit far now.

This year we have had Leonas new song and album top the charts, Alexandra Burkes did the same and then this was followed by Cheryl Coles inane and pointless effort of an album that only did as well as it did because of her over exposure on that show. Then we had the Finalists awful rendition of a Michael Jackson classic that shot straight to number one. Yes it was for charity but why not donate a weeks worth of profit raised from the voting/ads ect so that we wouldnt have to be subjected to such crap. All of this gives Simon Cowell and big ego boost, as if he needs one. This one man is killing music and killing single and album sales for more talented artists and groups.

I went to see Alesha Dixon the other week. She is amazing. She can sing, dance, she writes her own songs, she organises her own tours she has an influence on everything she does and says.

Leona, Alexandra, Shane and this years winner will never be able to do that because they wont be allowed!

Every year the show has guest artists who sing during the results, fine, but its the same people every year hoping to bag a number one;

Westlife

Mariah Carey

Whitney

Black Eyed Peas

Michael Buble

Robbie Williams

All these artists have had successful albums this year due to this show, that in itself is ok but lets have some real talent on there, people who maybe need a break... and, heaven forbid, more UK artists. This year we have had amazing albums from Paloma Faith, Frankmusic, Little Boots, Lady Hawke and Alesha Dixon to name but a few. This is who I want to see on these shows!!!
